Tour Description;

 

 

 

Day 1

On arrival at Sandakan airport by early morning, proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the Orangutans at 10am and video show. Continue to Sandakan jetty for an estimated 2 hours boat journey to Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats.

 

Late afternoon take a two hours river cruise using electric motor in search of some of the 10 primate species including Proboscis monkeys as they settle down on treetops along the Kinabatangan River. Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner and slide show conducted by naturalist guide. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge (Subjected to availability).. (LD)

 

 

 

Day 2

After breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat journey. Lunch at Sandakan before proceed for a short tour of Sandakan town including water village, The Agnes Keith House (closed on Friday) and The Australian War Memorial. Transfer to airport for departure. (BL)

 

Please bring along sun block lotion, personal toiletries, torch light, insect repellent, walking shoes, binoculars, hat & raincoat.

 

Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others.

Day 01

Day 02

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. A 6.00 am morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to view more birds and wildlife. Proceed to the Kelenanap ox-bow lake for a short jungle walk (if weather permits). Experience the wilderness of Borneo. You have the option to participate in our conservation project by planting trees at our 64 acres adopted land. After breakfast, transfer by boat to Sukau Village for a short tour including a tea break.  In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. After dinner an optional (at a surcharge) night safari cruise spotting nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds.

Day 03

After breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat journey. Lunch at Sandakan before proceed for a short tour of Sandakan town including water village, The Agnes Keith House  (closed on Friday) and The Australian War Memorial. Transfer to airport for departure flight . (BL)

Sukau Rainforest Lodge,

20 rooms, multi international award winners, It was built in 1995 in traditional Malaysian architecture using several Borneo hardwood species. It is built on stilts with a separate lounge, restaurant, open sun-deck, river jetty, an enclosed garden and two tree platforms. Electricity is supplied by solar panels/generator, and hot water by solar heaters. All rooms are twin bedded, with ceiling fan, mosquito netting, attached bathroom, hot shower and toilets. River tours are conducted by boats powered by electric motors.

 

 

Tour Name: SANDAKAN SAFARI EXTRAVAGANZA

 

Duration:  4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

 

Description: 

Day 01 - Meet at Hotel Lobby (0945hrs) or Sandakan Airport (MH2042 ETA 0810hrs). Transfer to jetty for boat ride to Selingan Turtle Islands Park. The journey to Island will take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Upon arrival, register at Turtle Island Parks HQ and check into chalet. After lunch at cafeteria, free at own leisure e.g swimming or snorkeling. After dinner, wait for rangers call to observe turtle laying eggs. Transfer the eggs to the hatchery and if there are young turtle hatchlings, an opportunity to observe the release of baby turtles to the open sea. Overnight at Chalet (Common or Attached Bathroom). (Lunch / Dinner)

 

Day 02 - After breakfast, drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. 1000 hrs Feeding of Orang Utans. At this center, observe man’s closest relative “the Orang Utan” being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo.

 

1100hrs depart Sepilok and transfer to jetty in Sandakan.

 

1145hrs take an hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary where you will take your lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant . This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest. After Lunch, free and relax at our nature board walk before cruising for searching other wildlife.

 

After dinner, night cruise lead you to witness the nature of fire flies as Christmas tree. Overnight at Abai Jungle Lodge. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

 

Day 03 - Wake up by the calls of nature. Early morning take a river trip to Pitas oxbow lake to observe wildlifes and experience the unique of Pitas lake. After breakfast, an option to join our tree planting project with the locals and lunch with them at Abai Village. This project specially design to help the locals. After lunch, cruise UP river to Sukau village in search of primates especially the Endemic Proboscis Monkeys, birds and other wildlife.

 

Arrive Sukau, check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, take another river cruise with electric motor to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Return lodge for dinner and overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner )

 

Day 04 - Wake up by the calls of gibbons or hornbills. After Breakfast, depart overland to Gomantong Birdnest Caves. Upon arrival, 15 minutes walk on the plankwalk to the cave. Explore the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah, home to millions of Bats and Swiflets. The nest of the swiflets are collected for the famous Chinese edible birdnest soup.

 

Then, continue journey by land to Sandakan, drive up hill to the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple, which offers a panoramic view of the Sandakan Bay before lunch at local restaurant or hotel. After lunch, proceed to airport for your flight MH 2709 (ETD1415hrs) or your hotel. (Breakfast / Lunch)

Recommended Personal Gear
Insect repellent, raincoat (umbrella not recommended), hat, binocular and sun screen (sweat proof). Use good walking shoes and comfortable cotton T-shirt with long or short pant.

IMPORTANT

  1. Please take note that Sabah Parks allow only camera of unaided flash to take photograph of the turtle. Video/Digital Video Camera are not allowed.

  2. Sabah Parks also forbid visitor from going around the island on their own from 6:00pm – 6:00am.
